There has been a little gap in updates as we wanted to announce what we have been up to with our Touchy and Greenlight projects but that does not mean we have not been beavering away on Icebreaker at the same time….nobody sleeps here don’t you know!

This update covers a little about the characters in the game. Because our web games have a short turnaround time we rarely get to explore the characters in the game world so we made sure to make the most of it this time.

We explore the characters mainly through in game conversations they have. It is quite like how we did it in our Rubble Trouble games but we have made more tools to explore this further than we did in those games.

Ok so hopefully we managed to surprise you with this!

Flightless will be, with your help, our first full PC download game available through Steam!
The game is an epic puzzle metrovania platform game for one or two players drop in drop out co-op split screen! You play as ducks that have had their wings clipped for stealing and to pay it back you must search for gems to pay back your debt in a huge dungeon full of monsters and traps.

With clipped wings flying and even jumping are not possible but luckily you have a magic ladder to help you out. Press the action key and it will cast a ladder upwards or downwards until it hits something.

Use this to climb round the levels, take out enemies, trigger switches, weigh down pressure pads, bend round corners (what?) and much more!

Did we mention you can play this game full screen and that there are no ads…..what!!! No really as this is intended as a free flash game we are going all out to promote it!
You can play the Flightless demo right now!
Vote for us on Steam Greenlight

IMPORTANT!!!: So you guys are always asking if you can help and you really can with this. Voting for us on Greenlight makes it get on Steam and we need that to make this a commercial success. Please don’t assume everyone else will do it anyway….every vote counts so if you like what we do please support us. Then when your done please like, tweet, +1 us and tell your friends so that we can get votes from them too. With the help of our fans we hope to make our most epic game yet!

Hello Nitromians, once again it’s time for us to give out some Pixel Love.

Today we’d like to highlight a game that deserves to be noticed in this wonderful world of the web! Snow Tale is a beautifully crafted platformer from Neutronized.

The run, jump, shoot control method will feel very familiar, and this isn’t a bad thing. With such an enjoyable formula you’ll be snowballing through the levels in no time. However there is more to this game than meets the eye. Popping in and out of houses and getting loads of enemies with the shoot-freeze-kick mechanic is very satisfying. Combine this with the ground pound and end level bosses, makes this a great little platformer.

With lovingly created characters and parallax scrolling landscapes, it’s difficult not to be drawn in to this game (sorry, bad pun!).

So have a play and lose yourself in this winter adventure… it kinda feels like the right time to play it because the summer is definitely over here in London town!

Enjoy and don’t forget to come back next week for some more Pixel Love.

As the update earlier in the week was not really a planned update, you’ll be happy to hear that we now have what we intended to post live for your viewing pleasure!

This time we talk about Set Pieces. Don’t know what that means? Well then, all the more reason to click through and have us address it for you. Pretty nice post this one and two cool examples that you’ll want to check out if you are following the project!

Hi Nitromians,

You may or may not be aware that two of our games in the past (Twin Shot 2 and BC Bow Contest) use a microtransaction system called Mochi Coins. We just got word that Mochi will no longer be offering their coins service as of October 15, 2012. You can see the post announcing this here: Mochi Coins Update

While we were surprised to hear the news we had already as a company decided to no longer support the format. You can see we made no further games using the coins after BC Bow Contest and we had intended to remove the coins altogether from those two games once we had our own login system available.

Unfortunately given the short notice period given to us we are not going to be able to transition things as smoothly as we would like but we will do our best to find the best solution in the timeframe for our users. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported us by buying the coins in the games we made using them.

Along with the coins the login system that was provided by Mochi is also going offline so this will revert saving the game to being only available on a single computer. Mochi have stated that the content people have purchased will still be available to them following that date but that people will not be able to buy new coins or items from that date. We feel at Nitrome that the best solution is going to be to offer that content freely in the game and we will be looking at the two games to decide how to best do that. We will give you more news on that as we have it!

There is now an update to our update on the Icebreaker page. Huh?

We recently did a post there about exactly how the different screen resolutions over the various iPhones/iPads and iPod Touches were going to be addressed.

Since then Apple kind of threw a spanner in the works and introduced a new screen dimension (see last post) so our recent update is already out of date!

Fear not, those worried that we may not have a clue that there is a new iPhone/iPod on the horizon should fear no more, and you will be able to play Icebreaker in swanky widescreen-o-vision should you see fit!

It’s the start of a brand new week here at Nitrome HQ, and we all know what that means don’t we?...That’s right it’s time to hand out some more love to another pixel triumph in this week’s Pixelove.

Highlighted this week is the epic adventure Seedling by Connor Ullmann

Take control of a small boy born from the wind who is destined to be special in this overhead action adventure.

There is loads to love about Seedling, though you may have to put aside a large chunk of time for this one due to it’s hefty size. But don’t be alarmed, you will be treated to tons of dungeons, devious puzzles and huge boss fights which are more than worth the time invested.

Playing through this game evoked more than a whiff of nostalgia for us on several occasions with players instantly being reminded of such classics as Zelda Links awakening. It has a distinct old school SNES influence which in our opinion does the genre proud.

What are you waiting for... game on!!

Hey Nitromians,

We noticed that a few people were wondering how the game differs between the iPad and iPhone/iPod touch versions of the game. We felt this was a good question that deserved addressing so this update is to do just that.

You'll also get to see some exclusive character animations too!

Hey Nitromians,

Today we are showing some love for the action climbing platformer ‘Tobes Hookshot Escape’ by the talented crew over at Secret Base

Use your hookshot ability to help Tobe escape the scrolling crumbling cavern. Climb as high as you can in this endless platformer, collecting diamonds, treasure chests and power ups along the way.

And when we first played it in the office it received a decent audience due to the lovely artwork. Combined with the “just one more go” addictive quality, makes this more than worthy to sit in our pixel love catalogue.

If you like what you see they have also got an iOS addition of the game which includes a whole bunch of brand new content, backgrounds, playable characters and unlockables.

This weeks Pixelove goes out to Cactus McCoy.

Take control of a gun slinging cactus in this epic beat-em-up platform adventure by Flipline Studios Tony Solary and Matt Neff

The first thing to note is the fact that this is a very highly polished title indeed. We were stunned with the level of depth in Cactus McCoy. It has the amount of pure content usually found only in paid-for titles. The sheer number of secrets and achievements to discover in each of its twelve levels is truly impressive.

It also has simple pick up and play keyboard controls. With plenty of onscreen hints  and a balanced difficulty curve you will be king of the west before you know it.

Well what are you waiting for grab your holsters and start shooting.

Happy gaming =0)
