The release date of Nitrome Must Die is now closer to the release date of the original Hot Air than to the present day. Also, in spite of Nitrome's complete inactivity on this site, there are now over 400,000 Nitrome accounts.

Well, the year is over, and we got one in-house game, one re-release of a browser game, one published game, one game that's halfway between published and in-house, and a handful of updates. Of the "11 games on the way" that Nitrome mentioned a few months ago, three have been released, and the only unreleased one we know about is Bomb Chicken. I'm not sure whether the dearth of Nitrome releases over the past year should make me excited about their upcoming releases or if it just means that they're short-staffed. The fact Nitrome haven't made any significant announcements about Bomb Chicken since March (and not many previews of other games either) makes me suspect that it's the latter.

@RSK: That's what I meant. Flat Pack is on par with Nitrome's best puzzle-based browser games like Mega Mash and changeType(), and their earlier free mobile games like Endless Doves, Roller Polar, and Cooped Up really aren't of the same tier.

Nitrome haven't released a single "get the best highscore you can" mobile game in more than a year. If you ask me, the overall quality of their releases has improved considerably from how it was back in late 2014 and 2015: about half the games they released during that time were simple little endless runners. Also, don't forget that Nitrome finally followed through with Project Surface by releasing Flat Pack.

If Nitrome had released Tower Fortress just one week later, they would have kept up their streak of releasing games on Thanksgiving for the fourth year in a row.

Is it just me, or is the music in the mobile version of Turn-Undead slightly different from the music in the browser version? I wouldn't be surprised if they did change it, since I remember Nitrome saying back when they released Silly Sausage in Meat Land that the original Silly Sausage's music didn't sound good on phone speakers.

@RSK: Well, from what I've seen so far, it seems that Nitrome's first in-house release of the year was worth the wait. They haven't made a puzzle game with an especially creative mechanic like this since changeType(), and that was three and a half years ago. Also, I was pleasantly surprised by some of the game's visual details. Each of the levels has an Icebreaker-style icon, and the 3D blocks have little dents and scratches that aren't just flat images on their surfaces.

A release on a Monday? That's unusual.

I wonder how the controls will work for Flat Pack. I doubt they'll be of the same sort that Platform Panic and Hop Swap use since, from what I've seen in the previews, the player's character seems to have the ability to stand still.

Fortunately, Nitrome have been so seemingly inactive for the past few months because they've been working on projects such as Tower Fortress and Bomb Chicken that will break up the monotony of the "free mobile games and nothing but free mobile games" pattern they'd fallen into.

@Nitrome: That's good to hear. Thanks for the information!
